This committee's primary responsibilities are
voice amplification and recording of the Sunday
morning worship services, memorial services and
weddings. Members also set up microphones in the
McClellan Social Hall and in the Living Room when
requested. Upon reasonable notice, the committee is
responsible for projection of visuals (films and
slides) for church groups. On-the-job training is
provided.

The Building and Grounds Committee advises the
Board of Trustees on the maintenance of the existing
church building and other church properties (except
the Retreat House). This includes alterations,
furnishings, decorating, planting and landscape
development. This committee is not responsible for
the major remodeling of the Church. The committee
also provides advice and assistance to the Property
Administrator, and sponsors Fix-Up, Clean-Up Days in
the spring and fall. Both large and small amounts of
time, energy and skill are welcome.

The Fine Arts Committee is composed of individuals
interested in the creative and dramatic arts and how
the arts relate to spiritual issues. Activities
depend on the interests of the members but have
included monthly
art exhibits at the church, poetry readings and
dramatic presentations.

The Library Committee maintains the church
library, and plans and catalogs additions to the
collection. The library was closed, and its books
dispersed in September 1999, due to space
limitations. The committee hopes for restoration of
the library and growth of the childrens library
in the new church building.

The Personnel Committee meets the first Wednesday
of every month. The duties include: documenting staff
personnel files, revising, as needed, staff job
descriptions, creating, distributing, compiling and
administering staff evaluations, advising Trustees
and Moderator of staff requests and offering
suggestions for possible implementation. The
Committee is composed of three members from the
church at large, one representative from the Board of
Trustees, the Board of Deacons and the Board of
Christian Education; they report to the Moderator and
the Executive Council.

The Referral and Service Committee assists church
members during times of special need by helping with
food and transportation for medical and other
appointments. It assists in organizing receptions for
memorial services. Two committee members are
designated each month to be on call for coordinating
assistance.

The Retreat House Committee is
responsible for the operation and maintenance of the
house and the surrounding 65 acres of farmland and
woods near Yellow Springs, West Virginia,
affectionately known as "The Retreat
House." For over 30 years, the pre-Civil War
house has been used for a variety of retreats, summer
camps and family getaways from Easter to
Thanksgiving. The committee schedules its use, joins
in opening and closing retreats to do routine
maintenance and undertakes special projects, as
needed. Play is intermingled with work (not to
mention eating).

The Sanctuary Committee decorates the church for
worship and special occasions. It oversees the
provision of memorial flowers on the altar during
worship and other special services. Several times a
year the committee meets to clean and refurbish
equipment and to present programs on the art of
floral arranging.

For the past several years, the Special Gifts
Committee develops procedures for and manages
concerns governing the receipt of large and memorial
gifts to CCC. The committee votes on all memorial
gift expenditure requests and advises the Board of
Trustees of such requests along with the recommended
action. Additionally, Special Gifts has recently
taken on the task of tracking both the receipt and
expenditure of memorial gifts, notifying interested
parties and family members as to the accounting of
these bequests, trusts, and special funds.

Committee

The Ushers prepare the sanctuary for worship,
welcome and seat worshippers, distribute bulletins
and assist in the Order of Worship. Ushering is a
relatively small commitment of time, yet its an
important contribution to the service. We are always
looking for new people to lend a friendly smile!
