Tour 2000 Christ Congregational Church
9525 Colesville Road Members and friends of the Chancel Choir of Christ Congregational Church toured Europe from June 17 through June 30, 2000. The twenty-three-member ensemble toured and performed in Luxembourg and the Alsace-Lorraine region of France and Germany. In addition to Luxembourg, the choir visited the historic cities of Vianden, Colmar, Freiburg, and Strasbourg. There were five venues scheduled for this ensemble; these include two full-length concerts, participation in two worship services, and an open-air concert during a festival at Saint Joseph's Church in Colmar. Christ Congregational Church has a rich and diverse musical heritage. The Chancel Choir has traveled extensively throughout the United States and has performed numerous concerts in Europe. In addition to this ensemble, there are two children's choirs and a string ensemble, which participate in worship services throughout the year. John Touchton is in his third year as Director of Music at Christ Congregational Church. He is active as a solo pianist and has performed recitals in Texas, California, Michigan and Ohio. As a private teacher and adjudicator, he currently maintains a private studio in Silver Spring, Maryland. Mr. Touchton was most recently appointed to the Executive Board of the Washington, DC Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He holds performance degrees in music from Baylor University, the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. While a student, he held assistantships in accompanying at all three colleges he attended, and he continues to work as an accompanist in the Washington, D.C. area. Mr. Touchton has served numerous churches, worked as assistant conductor to the Women's Chorus at the University of Michigan, and was the Music Director for the Masco Chorus in Taylor, Michigan. |
