The Committee for the Arts has named the Brewster hallway "The Tate Gallery" for future reference. In doing so, we hope to both honor the Rev. Marian K. Tate who was a member of the Fine Arts Committee and who had a life-long devotion to art and to further honor the exhibiting artists in the future. Fine Arts offer
additional opportunity to praise God

Please note the special plaque hanging in the Tate Gallery designed to celebrate this event in the life of our church. It reads:

The Tate Gallery

dedicated in loving memory
of the life and art of

Marian K. Tate
1903 -1995
This page contains art shows for March, April,  May, June, August , October, and November   1998.

Art SHOW for November 1998

The November CCC Art Show in the Tate Gallery is a photography display provided by the Taylor family.

The pictures in this display are by Alan, Vicki, and Alicia Taylor.

Alan showed an interest in photography as a junior high student when he asked for a kit to develop his own black and white photographs. He has had a few classes with local nature photographers. He enjoys taking pictures of landscapes and wildlife.

Alan, Alicia, and Vicki Taylor

Vicki saw photographs of garden flowers with a ‘painted background’ by Joe Higgins and was hooked on taking closeups of flowers. She has taken several classes with Mr Higgins over the years when he taught at Brookside Gardens. She enjoys taking pictures of flowers, gardens, and wildlife. Alicia took a black and white photography class at Sweet Briar College and enjoyed it. She continues photography as a hobby and assists in the Black and White Photography classes at Montpelier Cultural Arts Center in Laurel. She enjoys taking pictures of barns and buildings.

Katherine Holzer lives in Laurel, has painted all her life, and in the last several years has shown her works within the Washington, D.C., area.

Katherine's works show a marvelous range, from the traditional to the modern. Right now, she's working in three dimensional, mixed media collages. Katherine believes that using these techniques "has made my work ore compelling and in some ways more visually truthful than my "more traditionally created works."

For those interested in Katherine's work, the church secretary has a an itemized list.

NEW ART SHOW for June 1998

WORDSMIITHS AMONG US

There are storytellers and poets among us.
one earns his or her living by writing, but all love using words
to spin a yarn, to cast a spell, to tell the truth of time and place.

Among those we celebrate here are:

Mika Ackerman Peter Brown
Evelyn Byers Lindsey O' Steen
Susan Pearcy Lois Stovall
Eleanor Waldrop Gail Withuhn

ART SHOW for May 1998

Art works by the children of the church were hung in the Tate Gallery and the Living Room during the month of May.

ART SHOW for April 1998

A series of art works by Paul Rydell was displayed in the Tate Gallery and the Living Room during the month of April.

He says, "Most of my life I have had an appreciation of art in watercolor. I have always enjoyed photography and traveling, and when it was possible tried to attend watercolor shows, rather than going to art museums as such. When I retired after 39 years in the insurance business, I began taking classes in watercolor painting for the first time through Montgomery County Adult Education Program. This has proven to be a most interesting experience. It is challenging, rewarding, and yes, at times it can be frustrating. You might like it."

March 1998 ART SHOW
