Fine Arts offer
additional opportunity to praise God
The Committee for the Arts has named the Brewster hallway "The Tate Gallery" for future reference. In doing so, we hope to both honor the Rev. Marian K. Tate who was a member of the Fine Arts Committee and who had a life-long devotion to art and to further honor the exhibiting artists in the future. Please note the special plaque hanging in the Tate Gallery designed to celebrate this event in the life of our church. It reads:

The Tate Gallery

dedicated in loving memory
of the life and art of

Marian K. Tate
1903 -1995

This page contains art shows for February,  April, May, July, September,  and November 2005.

 Art Show for November 2005
featuring paintings by John Hildebrandt and Robert Rosenberry

John Hildebrandt

John has been painting since the 1960s. His preferred medium is watercolor and he has taken numerous courses offered by Montgomery County Adult Education. John has studied with various painters, including Phil Metzger, Skip Lawrence, Gerry Smith and Yolanda Frederikse. During the summer months, he paints with a "plein air" group in New Hampshire. He is a member of the Rockville Art League and the Wakefield Arts Council.

Robert L. Rosenberry

Drawing or painting was an occasional hobby as a youth and has resurfaced in my retirement travels.

Following graduation in 1949 from Alabama's Auburn University with a degree in Building Construction, School of Architecture, my career involved overseeing planning, designing, building or managing major construction programs. As a consequence some of the prerequisites for success in that field influence my work.

Art Show for September 2005

Help for the Victims of Hurricane Kartrina

To help the victims that have been devastated by the hurricane, all of these framed photographs are for sale for $100 each. 100% of the sales will be donated to the American Red Cross for the survivors. If you are interested in purchasing any of these photos, please see Susan Gray in the church office, or contact Laura Boyer at pkboyer@erols.com. Thank you!

Many of these photos were taken during a trip to Spain with my husband, Pete, in 2004.  What a beautiful place! The pictures were shot with an old Olympus SLR camera. Most of the other photos, taken in 2005, were shot in Maryland, Virginia, and New York with a digital Sony Cybershot camera. I hope you enjoy this collection of photos . . .

Regards,

Laura Boyer

The Potomac Thrummers present a display of hookings. The works consist of rugs, mats, wall hangings, Christmas tree ornaments and two Indian masks.

The hookings are made by pulling strips of material up through a coarse backing. The backing is usually burlap, linen or cotton but any fabric can be used. The strips used in the presented pieces are mainly wool but other materials can be and are used . The designs may be original or from a pattern.

In this show the works mounted on the black boards are scenes depicting something of Maryland or Virginia history. The Christmas tree ornaments are mounted on a felt tree or on felt carousels. Sometimes histories or family histories are depicted as seen in the work titled"Mary Esther".

The Thrummers, an arm of ATHA -Association of Traditional Hooking Artists-thank Christ Congregational Church for the opportunity to present this show. They also thank the church for allowing them to hold a gathering of area hooking clubs on April 16th. All are welcome to come and observe.
