The Committee for the
Arts has named the Brewster hallway "The Tate
Gallery" for future reference. In doing so, we hope
to both honor the Rev. Marian K. Tate who was a member of
the Fine Arts Committee and who had a life-long devotion
to art and to further honor the exhibiting artists in the
future. |

|
| Think ahead to Christmas,
birthdays, anniversaries, and other special times! Artists and/or owners of the paintings and print hanging in the living room have donated their works to be sold, with the entire proceeds to benefit the keystones capital campaign. These artists are members or deceased members of CCC. Lou Hazam was an active member in the 60's and 70's. Marian Tate, for whom we named the "Tate gallery" was a much beloved associate minister of CCC. Alma Lugo is a current member, active in the adult education class and the art committee. |
The oils, watercolors, &
print will be on view in the Living room through most of
November. If you wish to buy a painting or print, leave a
check for it in the church office with Ruth Avery. The
painting will be marked as sold by a red dot and held
until the end of the show. Your check will be held until
you pick up your work. Those who buy prints of Alma
Lugo's work may have their copies immediately, as Alma
has donated multiple unframed copies of her work. Gall Withuhn & Vicki Taylor |

Paintings by
Conrad
Alberding
| Conrad
Alberding has been painting for about 25 years after
taking early retirement from the Federal Government. He
tried art classes and found that he enjoyed it and had a
talent for it. Conrad took art classes at Montgomery
College and has done work in several different mediums:
acrylic, oils, sculpture, and watercolors. His favorite
medium is watercolors as shown in this exhibit of his
paintings. During the winter in Florida he participates
weekly in a painting group. Mr Alberding especially loves to do watercolors of nature. The sea with its grasses, sand, and water are a favorite subject. Many of the pictures in the show were done in Florida where he visits in the winter. However, the large painting with the cubist style is of a Montgomery County School before it was demolished. |
Conrad is a first
generation American. His father immigrated to the
Washington DC area from Holland. His wife, Betty, is also
a native Washingtonian. They have been married 57 years.
They have 2 children, 2 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. The Alberdings have lived in the Four Corners Area since 1956. They are parishioners of St. Bernadettes. Mr Alberding worked for the Federal Government as a procurement officer. For a period of time he did volunteer work at the Corcoran Gallery of Art where he helped mount exhibits. Over the years he has also volunteered at Holy Cross Hospital and Providence Hospital and helped his wife with Meals on Wheels. |

Conrad is offering some of the paintings in this exhibit for sale. There is a list of prices in the office. However, some of his favorite pieces are Not For Sale. Mr Alberding proudly presents these works of art for your enjoyment. Some of them have won prizes at local art shows. He has, also, been juried into the annual Art Show at Brookside Gardens but will not be showing this year due to his wifes health. |

An Architect's View of Europe - - 1928- 1930
by Richard F. Voell
| From October of 1928 through
1930 Mr. Richard F Voell traveled through Europe
recording architectural forms on paper as pencil
sketches, watercolors and lithographs. In the summer of
1928 he competed with 22 other top architectural
graduates from mid-western colleges for the Reyerson
Traveling Fellowship. His sketches of Chicago area
estates and gardens won him the traveling fellowship for
study abroad. One of his wining pencil sketches is in the
show: "Estate of David Adler, Libertyville,
Illinois". Unfortunately, work, golf and family took up Mr. Voell's time during his working years. The only artwork he did was to design an occasional Christmas card and paint Aesop's fables on Easter eggs for Vicki. When he retired to Hawaii, he was encouraged to take up painting again but declined. He enjoyed his palette of yellow ochre, cerulean blue and burnt sienna that are so prevalent in his European watercolors. He didn't feel the Hawaiian landscape lent itself to using that palette. |
|
1930s Vicki Voell Taylor, his daughter, proudly presents these works of art for your enjoyment. Other works of Mr. Voell's have been shown previously at this church. These particular works, however, are his favorite ones and have not been previously shown as they hung in his homes in Washington, DC and Hawaii. |

| Christ Congregational
Church has been the home of Cub Scout Pack 275 since the
late 1940s, more than 50 years. Today the Pack includes
nearly 30 boys, grades 1 through 5, and their families.
Most of the Cubs live in the neighborhoods surrounding
the church. The art displayed was created and mounted by the boys of the Pack to reflect Cub Scouts' basic goals of encouraging respect for nature, good citizenship, and self-esteem. In addition, Cub Scout activities encourage spiritual growth, introduce the boys to new activities and interests, and strengthen their ability to get along with and respect others. |
The boys of
Pack 275 not only work on scouting achievements that help
them to progress through the ranks of Cub Scouts, but
they also collect food for area food banks at
Thanksgiving, host a pot-luck dinner for their families
and friends in February, build and race wooden cars in
March, go camping with their families in June, and launch
model rockets that they have built themselves in August. For more information about Pack 275, call Cubmaster Kelly Kilmer at (301) 589-4312 or Pack Committee Chair Beth Martin at (301) 587-8404. |
