artworks by Suzanne has been creating fiber art since 1993. Her original designs take inspiration from nature, architecture, and her reactions to personal experiences. In her work, you will frequently see commercial cotton combined with her own hand-dyed and painted fabric, bold West African prints, and vintage kimono scraps, as well as extensive fused applique, threadwork and vintage buttons or beads for textural contrast. Susanne has been sewing since childhood, and considers this, her second career, as coming full circle. What's important to Susanne in creating fiber art is enjoying the process, letting the quilt-in-process dictate "what's next," and taking risks along the way. The results, she feels, take care of themselves. She doesn't strive to win contests for precision work; rather she enjoys the freedom of construction that fabric offers her - an unlimited canvas. Also, you will frequently see her sense of humor in her work. |
