| The Potomac Thrummers
present a display of hookings. The works consist of rugs, mats,
wall hangings, Christmas tree ornaments and two Indian masks.
The hookings are made by pulling strips of material up
through a coarse backing. The backing is usually burlap, linen
or cotton but any fabric can be used. The strips used in the
presented pieces are mainly wool but other materials can be and
are used . The designs may be original or from a pattern.
In this show the works mounted on the black boards are scenes
depicting something of Maryland or Virginia history. The
Christmas tree ornaments are mounted on a felt tree or on felt
carousels. Sometimes histories or family histories are depicted
as seen in the work titled"Mary Esther".
The Thrummers, an arm of ATHA -Association of Traditional
Hooking Artists-thank Christ Congregational Church for the
opportunity to present this show. They also thank the church for
allowing them to hold a gathering of area hooking clubs on April
16th. All are welcome to come and observe.
