Moderator Sue Dollin's opening remarks.
The meeting will come to order...
Jim Todhunter will lead us in prayer...
Just in case there is someone here that does not know why we are having this
congregational meeting; we are here to vote on whether to proceed with Phase One
of the church's Master Plan for improving the facilities.
This meeting will include presentations from the co-chairs of the Building and Design Committee; co-chairs of the Financial Fulfillment Committee; chair of Trustees and one of the two co-chairs of the Steering Committee.
This is the culmination of a very long process and I would like to take this
opportunity to thank each and everyone that has participated in the process. As
I mention the following, please stand and remain standing until the end of the
recognition. Special thanks to
. the church's ministers and support
staff
. to past moderators, Terry Strand and Neville Platt
. to moderator-elect Rick Brush
· all the chairs and co-chairs of the Keystones Leadership team
· If you served on one of their committees or sub-committees, please stand
· If you served on a board or committee over the past 3 years that considered
issues dealing with the Keystones Campaign and/or building and design, financing
the project and moving to new facilities· . . . . . · Lastly, if you attended
at least one of the opportunities offered to receive information and provide
your input, please stand.
For the few of you that think we are rushing into things, let me go through the process that began in 1996 with the Self Study. In 1997, the Facilities Task Force was formed to determine how our facility should better serve our mission. On October 4, 1998 the congregation voted affirmatively on the proposed prospectus. One year later, almost to the day, on October 3, 1999 the congregation voted in the affirmative to:
· adopt the Master Plan developed and recommended by the Ambassador's
Committee.
· authorized the formation of the capital fundraising campaign with a target
goal of 2 million dollars and a vision goal of implementing the full Master
Plan.
· authorized the trustees to retain the firm of Ziger/Snead and such other
persons and firms necessary to prepare the Master Plan's implementation and to
initiate the county approval process.
On February 13th of 2000 we celebrated a very successful conclusion to the capital campaign.
On March 26 at this same year the congregation approved the Primary Needs Option (Phase One) of the Full Master Plan.
Now for those of you that thought you wouldn't live to see it. Guess what! You made it. Hundreds of hours and meetings later we are here to determine the future of Christ Congregational Church.
I know that we are all anxious to get to the vote, but bear
with us just a little longer.
Presentations have been scheduled to help us determine how we wish to vote. I
have asked
Past Moderator Mary Pence to be my parliamentarian, and Nancy Kosinski and Ken Stith to be tellers for today. I call on Moderator Elect, Rick Brush to make the motion. Second?
