 ADULT EDUCATION CLASSES

The Sunday Contemporary Theology Class meets for an hour each Sunday from 8:45-9:45 A.M. before the second  worship service and provides fellowship, mutual support, and study of a variety of religious ideas through personal sharing and lively discussion of books and other media. It is currently led by the our associate pastor, Rev. Sandy Dodson.  Men and women of all ages and persuasions are welcome as long as they respect and honor those whose beliefs and persuasions may differ from theirs. As always, the class welcomes visitors and is open to anyone who would like to participate. 

The group is currently discussing A Generous Orthodoxy: Why I Am a Missional, Evangelical, Post/Protestant, Liberal/Conservative, Mystical/Poetic, Biblical, Charismatic/Contemplative, Fundamentalist/Calvinist, Anabaptist/Anglican, Methodist, Catholic, Green, Incarnational, Depressed-yet-Hopeful, Emergent, Unfinished CHRISTIAN by Brian McLaren.   

Books recently discussed by the class include Open Christianity by Jim Burklo, The World's Religions: Our Great Wisdom Traditions by Huston Smith, Amazing Grace, by Jonathan Kozol, Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World by Henri Nouwen, The Heart of Christianity  by Marcus Borg, Process Theology: A Basic Introduction by C. Robert Mesle,  Christianity Without God by Lloyd Geering,  Reading the Bible Again for the First Time by Marcus Borg, The God of Jesus by Stephen Patterson. Starting in September 18 John Gipson will be leading a (roughly) one-year survey course of the Bible. The goal of this course is not to study each book in depth, but rather to sample the entire Bible, starting from Genesis, and ending with Revelations. Our guidebook in this journey will be: "3:16 Bible Texts Illuminated" by Donald Knuth. They meet in Room 207.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study
The class will meet at the church Tuesday mornings from 8 am to 9 am starting on October 4, 2005 in Room 107. The initial offering will be an in depth study of the book of Acts and will be led by Angela M. Bouma.
