Back To Top July Revival at Lincoln Congregational Temple UCC. On July 11 and 12 at 7:00 PM, the Rev. Dr. James A. Forbes, Senior Minister, Riverside Church, NYC, will lead a two-night revival at Lincoln Congregational Temple, 1701 11th Street, DC. Riverside is an interdenominational, interracial and international congregation affiliated with the UCC and the American Baptist Church. Rev. Forbes has served that congregation since 1989. He is also the Harry Emerson Fosdick Adjunct Professor of Preaching at Union Theological Seminary and teaches at Auburn Theological Seminary. According to the Riverside website, "[i]n national and international circles, Dr. Forbes is known as the preacher’s preacher because of his extensive preaching career and his charismatic style." The Lincoln Temple revival will feature the choir of Peoples Congregational UCC. See the revival poster and information about Dr. Forbes on the main CCC bulletin board.UCC Joins Statement in Response to UN Session on HIV/AIDS On June 7, six US Christian denominations, including the UCC through Justice and Witness Ministries and Wider Church Ministries, issued a statement that called upon US policy makers to step up the world-wide fight against AIDS. This followed a three day debate at the UN that assessed progress made since 2001 on AIDS treatment and prevention and formulated plans through 2010. The statement by the six organizations expressed disappointment with the statement issued after the UN meeting, and stated their intentions to intensify "advocacy for US policies that address this great crisis in the most robust way." The group called upon the US Government to increase contributions to the Global Fund, to add new countries to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, to remove restrictions on HIV/AIDS funding that hinder prevention, to comply with the law that requires at least 10% of US global HIV/AIDS funding to go to orphans and vulnerable children, and to invest in health systems in economically impoverished countries. See the full statement on the BSW bulletin board.
