From 2:30 -- 3:45 p.m., I'll be leading a parent group on teaching sexuality to our children. We'll discuss developmentally appropriate topics, share books and resources, and engage in discussion about this sensitive family issue. Included in the session will be the opportunity to review our UCC Open and Affirming philosophy, recognizing our belief that we are all God's children. If people would like to continue the discussion, we can plan another session for Jan. 27. Child care will be provided. This seminar will be the foundation for an upcoming February workshop discussed below. Terry Strand, Open & Affirming Task Force Gender Issues Are Focus Of Feb. 9 Workshop On Sat., Feb. 9, Bill Johnson from the Health and Wholeness Advocacy Ministry from our UCC national office will be the keynote speaker at a workshop at Plymouth Church. Terry Strand, Open & Affirming Task Force Remember, Jan. 18-21 Is Winter Weekend Please join us for a wonderful weekend of fun, winter sports, square dancing and friendship as we return to Camp Soles in Pennsylvania for our annual Winter Weekend, Jan 18-21. We'll be sharing the camp with the Washington Ethical Society and the Green Acres group, just like last year, and this year we have invited Marvin Memorial members to join us as well. Since this is Martin Luther King weekend, you will have the option of a two-night stay (adults $80, youths 6-17, $74) or a three-night stay (adults $127, youths $120). Children 5 and under are free. Registration information is posted on the bulletin board at Marvin Memorial. Please return the registration form and checks (made out to CCC) to the Board for Church Life in the church office, or you may register after church during the coffee hour. Since the date of Winter Weekend is earlier this year than in the past, payment is now due BEFORE CHRISTMAS, BY DEC. 23. Contact Terry Strand or Trish Esposito for further information. Priscilla Peterson CCC's annual Christmas Offering will be received on Dec. 23. The funds will be distributed between the Veterans of the Cross, Community Ministry of Montgomery County and ASSISST. It offers financial assistance to retired and, on occasion, active UCC clergy in need. Community Ministry of Montgomery County is an inter-congregational, grassroots organization that provides direct services to and advocates for needy individuals and families in the entire county. ASSISST provides much-needed services to elderly persons in the Silver Spring community. Montgomery County Volunteer Center's web site (www.co.mo.md.us/services/volunteer) lists a number of opportunities to help out in the community. You can find information on specific volunteer opportunities as well as student learning services, the retired and senior volunteer program, resources for nonprofits, and a weekend/evening volunteer calendar. If you're interested in advocacy issues, be sure to check the "Postings" area of the CCC web site each week, because our webmasters provide a link to the Weekly Legislative Update from the UCC Office for Church in Society.
