Becoming an Anti-Racist, Multi-Racial/Multi-Cultural Church

Whereas Christ Congregational Church (CCC), United Church of Christ (UCC) is an inclusive, questing community of faith seeking to embody Jesus Christ by doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God;

Whereas racism and other "–isms" are central issues in the world today;

Whereas CCC is part of the UCC (Denomination, Conference and Association), which has adopted A Just Peace, Open and Affirming, and Anti-Racist policies;

Whereas CCC has studied, adopted, and institutionalized A Just Peace and Open and Affirming policies and is engaged on an Anti-Racism Journey;

And whereas CCC believes that God is Still Speaking about how to be more faithful by extravagantly welcoming all seeking to join in the social justice work against racism and other injustices instead of simply being non-racists, this vision statement for the CCC Anti-Racism Journey was developed based on the recommended actions included in the Anti-Racism Audit.

By 2008 Christ Congregational Church, United Church of Christ
…is a congregation aligned with community demographics, with institutionalized policies
for being an anti-racist, multi-racial, and multi-cultural community

[Vision 1—Policy/Strategy];

…is fully reflecting CCC core values in worship, Christian education, activities, and discussions/dialogue with all barriers removed; maintaining a strong anti-racism consciousness and action; providing opportunities to interact with people "not-like-me"; and including diverse speakers and workshops within and outside the church community

[Vision 2—Worship and Education];

…has more members of the congregation involved in the community; recognizes members’ participation in the community; is speaking out on issues of social injustice and  engaging those with differing viewpoints; is promoting awareness and advocacy of Long Branch community within the congregation; and intentionally recruiting and retaining people of color as board members of church and community organizations

[Vision 3—Community];

…and has a business policy that is in harmony with Just Peace, Open and Affirming, and Anti-Racist positions

[Vision 4—Business].
