Thanks for visiting the Christ Congregational Church Web site, and we hope you’ll come see us some Sunday. Whether you come from a church background or not, whether you know all about the United Church of Christ denomination or if this is your first exposure to it, we hope to make you feel welcome. We offer two different services from which to choose. The 9 a.m. Service of Community and Sacrament is a 45-minute gathering in the round. We meet in the Meeting Room, down the hall from our sanctuary. Participants bring the "sermon" as together we share our reflections on traditional and contemporary scripture readings. Communion is part of each week's service. The 10:30 a.m. service (10 a.m. in the summer) gathers in our sanctuary. The worship order can be considered traditional yet its style is creative and engaging. Special music is provided by our adult choir and others. Communion is served generally on the first Sunday of the month. Services are 70 minutes in length. Childcare is available for infants and toddler/twos during both morning Our main entrance and parking lot are on the far side of the building from Colesville Road. We have visitor parking spaces reserved near the door; feel free to use them. When you enter through the doors from the parking lot you’ll see a greeter and a table with nametags. You can make out a temporary one if you wish. We adopted the permanent nametags to make it easier for all of us (new and long-time members alike) to get to know each other. There’s also a list of locations for the nursery and church school; the greeter can direct you to the right location. Sometimes we may not have a greeter before the 9 a.m. service. Please ask if you’re looking for assistance. We want to be helpful! To reach the sanctuary, walk straight down the hall about 50 feet or so, and it’s on the right. There’s a ramp next to the short set of stairs if that’s easier. Our building is fully accessible to people who use wheelchairs. We also have large-print bulletins and assistive hearing devices; just ask the usher handing out bulletins. There are baskets of crayons and coloring books for kids. If you’re a few minutes late, that’s o.k. Enter the sanctuary when the usher directs you. Following the second service, there is a time of fellowship in the Social Hall. Here you can meet some new folk over coffee, tea and a light snack. CCC is comprised of people from many different faith traditions, including Protestant, Jewish and Catholic backgrounds (and those who have not been part of a church before). If you wear your visitor nametag, it helps us know to come up and introduce ourselves. In the entryway is a kiosk of information about CCC with even more than what’s on the Web site! In particular, if you want a complete overview, an annual report gives a great summary of all the year’s activities. If you leave your name and number, a member of our outreach committee will call just to see if you have any questions or want more information. Usually once a month following the 10:30 a.m. service, we have a brief information session about the church and the UCC denomination. New members are welcomed into the church on the 4th Sunday of each month. We hope this gives you an idea of what to expect. Should you have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the church office. We hope you’ll join us as we pursue our faith journey together. |
